The
Crossroads Refuge program is for dogs who come into our program
with significant health and/or behavioral issues that make them "unadoptable"
- yet who still have lives to live. These dogs require regular veterinary care and medications so
have ongoing costs. Please see the Refuge dogs listed below, and if you can donate sponsorship money to their care, we - and they - would greatly appreciate it!

Faith survived 11 years in a puppy mill only
to be diagnosed months after her liberation with kidney disease.
Unfortunately, her prognosis is not good.
Due to her health
issues, she is considered "unadoptable" and will remain a participant in CSTR's Refuge
program. To donate toward her ongoing care, please click on the Donate
button. |

Penelope also survived ten years in a puppy mill
but was diagnosed just a year later with a very aggressive form a mammary
cancer. Had she been spayed before or shortly after her first heat cycle
years ago, it could have been prevented.
She will spend the remainder of her life in
the CSTR Refuge program. |

Sweet
Kyle was picked up off the streets of a south Chicago suburb in terrible
shape. Upon examination it was found that he had severe ulcers on both
eyes as well as terrible ear infections. His ears were so bad, they
were described as looking like there were mushrooms growing in them.
After a haircut and good bath, it was also determined that he had mange.
Consultation with CSTR's vet resulted in the
decision to remove both of Kyle's eyes due to the severity of the ulcers.
Despite the terrible pain he had to have been in, though, this sweet dog
never once growled, snapped or did anything more than wag his tail, seeming
to know that we were there to help him.
Kyle came through the surgery very well and
is now recovering in his foster home. The ear infections continue to
plague him, so he will remain in the Refuge program until they are
resolved. Once they are, however, he will be ready for a forever
home of his own.
Update July 1, 2010 -
Kyle continues to struggle with health
issues and is currently being treated for decreased liver values. He
also is experiencing back issues that resulted in him losing use of his back
legs for a while but thanks to his foster mom's care and a rehabilitation
program, Kyle is walking again and seems to be getting stronger every day.

ongoing medical costs, please click the Donate button above.

15 year old Gage lived 13 years in an Iowa
puppy mill, and the emotional damage that he suffered has rendered him
unadoptable. Gage is terrified of being outside his foster home and
shows very little interest in human interaction, preferring to spend his
time with his foster siblings, instead.
Gage also suffers from renal disease and will
spend the remainder of his life in
the CSTR Refuge program. |
